지난 11일 발생한 미국의 테러 사건을 사전에 이스라엘이 알고 있었다는 사실이 신빙성 있게 제기되고 있다.
아랍 에미리트 연합의 두바이에서 발간되는 신문인 Khaleej 타임즈는 9월 19일자 기사에서 중동 전문가의 말을 인용 이스라엘 정보기관인 모사드는 이미 테러 사건을 예견하고 있었다고 보도하면서 그 증거로 세계무역센터에 근무하는 약 4000명 가량의 이스라엘인이 약속이라도 한 듯 모두 결근하여 한 명의 사상자도 없었다는 사실을 제시하였다.
익명을 요구한 이 중동 전문가는 그럼 왜 이스라엘이 그런 사실에 대하여 침묵하고 있었는지에 대한 물음에 아마도 이스라엘 점령 지역에서 발생하는 팔레스타인들의 학살에 대한 세계의 관심을 다른 곳으로 돌리게 하려는 의도였는지도 모른다고 말했다.
Khaleej 타임즈는 또 이스라엘은 사건 발생 직후 4000명의 이스라엘인의 행방에 대하여 큰 관심을 보이다가 갑자기 그들의 생명의 안위에 대한 염려를 하지 않았다고 보도했다.
이와 관련 요르단의 알 와탄 신문은 외교 소식통의 말을 인용하여 이스라엘은 세계무역센터에 근무하는 이슬라엘인들을 비극적 사건에서 결근이라는 방법을 통하여 구하여 냈다고 보도했으며 알 마나르 텔레비젼은 그와 같은 많은 숫자의 이스라엘인들이 어떻게 모두 결근 했느냐는 의문은 이미 미국의 사건 조사관들 사이에서 의문이 제기 되고 있다고 전했다.
