Bunye: GMA’s foes getting desperate

President Arroyo’s political foes have become so desperate that they launched a disinformation campaign in the vain hope of grabbing power, the Palace announced on Saturday.
The President’s spokesman, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, said the campaign included rumors that Mrs. will declare martial law.
“Having failed to drum up support through their unfounded accusations, they are peddling disinformation to provoke the people, such as the martial-law rumors. We are confident that this ploy will be detected and rejected by the people, who by now are sick and tired of all these political bickering and mudslinging,” Bunye said.
The martial-law and warrantless arrest rumors, Bunye added, confirmed earlier findings by the Philippine National Police that there is a “grand design to overthrow the Arroyo administration.”
All that is happening now, Bunye noted, has the same pattern: to poison the people’s mind and destabilize the government.
Despite the attempts to discredit her, Bunye said the President continues to work hard to improve the economy and give a better life for every Filipino.
“Economic fundamentals have remained strong. Despite the controversies, the stock market, the barometer of the trust and confidence of investors, remains strong,” he said.
Bunye warned that efforts must be made to stop once and for all the peddlers of lies and intrigues because if these continue, investments in the country would be affected.
Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz of Dagupan-Lingayen called on the President to resolve the controversy over the recordings of her alleged conversation with an election commissioner to rig an election.
The President, Cruz said, should have the recordings authenticated by an independent expert to settle the matter.
“Truth or lie, the tape in question is no light matter. Not only the past could be dug up. The present might become uncertain, and the future of the country pitifully made unpredictable,” Cruz added.
