Our Country, Korea, will be saved by the North Korean Defectors!

Nick Eberstadt of AEI delivered a very powerful and emotional speech in Seoul on May 15, 2005, titled, “Bring them home!” He said that, if the South Koreans bring and welcome the North Korean refugees into their arms, it is not only the right thing to do but also will save the country as a free nation. He talked about the historical example of Israel, who welcomed the Soviet Jews and Jews from Ethiopia into their newly found country. While translating his speech into Korea, I could not help shouting, “Why do we not accept and welcome our own brothers and sisters in South Korea?” “Why do we treat them as if they are foreigners from another country?”
If Israel was preoccupied only with their fight against the Arabs and their own economy, and did not welcome their own people into their land, Israel would not have survived the vicious attacks from all three sides, Arabs in the North, the East, and the South. Israel would have been no more. Some say that Israel won the fights against the Arabs because the American Jews helped them financially to wage the war. True, but that was not all of it. Israel fought with spirit. They welcomed all the suffering Jews scattered all over the world. Israel kept their country alive with their free spirit, not just with the money from the U.S.
Natan Sharansky, a former Soviet Jew and human rights activist, had a vision when he fought against the Soviet dictatorship: Soviet human rights and mass exodus of Jews from the U.S.S.R. W. Bush read his book, “The Case for Democracy ? The Power of Freedom to Overcome Tyranny and Terror.” W. Bush also read a book written by a North Korean defector named Kang Chol Hwan, “Aquariums of Pyongyang.” If South Koreans read these two books, they can find the answers how to get rid of Kim Jong-il and save their country. Mr. Sharansky says in his book that the d?tente or the quiet diplomacy in the 70’s by Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger were policies helping the Soviet tyranny. The reasons why the U.S.S.R. collapsed were the mass exodus of the Soviet Jews thanks to Helsinki Agreement and the policy of direct confrontation by Ronald Reagan against the evil empire. Reagan saw that the fight against the Communism was a fight between the good and the evil. He was right, and he won.
Mr. Sharansky was able to read the American policy accurately from within a fear society, Soviet Union. The only people who can see through Kim Jong-il and his madness are the NK defectors like Mr. Hwang Jang-yop and Mr. Kang Chol Hwan. That is why the people like Hwang and Kang, all the Cuban exiles, the refugees from South Vietnam, and the immigrants from the Eastern European countries support W. Bush who succeeded the fight against the evil from Ronald Reagan. The fight against Kim Jong-il is another fight between the evil and the good.
To accept and welcome the NK refugees is not only a right thing to do, but the shortest cut to get rid of Kim Jong-il and his nuclear weapons. Who do you think Kim Jong-il is afraid of most? They are the 7,000 NK defectors now living free in South Korea. They are the ones who know Kim Jong-il and North Korea from first-hand experience. Kim Jong-il and North Korean regime that traitors like Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun and the likes in South Korea picture are simply a delusion or propaganda. Kim Jong-il was so afraid of these defectors that he sent an assassin to kill his own nephew, Lee Han-young, who defected to South Korea.
That is the reason why Kim Dae-jung and Lim Dong Won (former NIS Chief in South Korea) kept Mr. Hwang Jang-yop in a cage and muzzled him for 6 years after he defected to South Korea. That is the reason why Kim Dae-jung kept him in Seoul even after he promised the U.S. Congress to send him to the U.S. for a visit. DJ Kim must have received a secret order from Kim Jong-il not to send Hwang to the U.S. That is why Roh and Chung Dong-young, the Unification Minister, are trying to discourage and block the defectors from coming to South Korea. Cut down the settlement allowance for the defectors by two-thirds! We have to investigate the refugees in China before we let them come to South Korea! There are many NK spies among the defectors! Do not let the defectors talk about Kim Jong-il here or abroad! Stop the defectors!
That is why Kim Jong-il executed publicly those who helped defectors cross the border in Hwae-Ryung City in March 2005. That is why the Chinese government keeps arresting and repatriating the defectors. The NK defectors are a major threat not only to Kim Jong-il but to the Chinese Communist dictatorship. All defectors are a major and direct threat to Hu Jin Tao. North Koreans must starve to death inside North Korea! Block the refugees! Kill all the refugees! The most urgent and important task for Kim Jong-il, Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun and Hu Jin Tao is to stop the refugee flood from South Korea to China. They will do anything and everything to quiet down the horror stories of the refugees.
Even a superpower like the Soviet Union could not stop the mass exodus of the Soviet Jews. They collapsed under the flood and weight. Kim Jong-il can never stop the flood of the refugees either. There is one way to stop the flood. If Kim Jong-il feeds his people, there will be no more refugees from North Korea. He can, he has money. There is nobody in the world who wants to leave his home and his country for a strange unknown land. North Koreans run away only to find food, to survive. Kim Jong-il once said to his aides that he could run the regime only with 10% of the population, or 3 million diehard loyals. He is that kind of an evil.
Traitors and leftists in the two Koreas and China are busy to kill, persecute, labor, sell and buy, and block the refugees. Furthermore! Those idiots at UNHCR have yet to recognize a single NK refugee, while being very cozy and comfortable collecting their salaries. The North Korea Human Rights Act passed the Senate and the House unanimously in September 2004, and signed by W. Bush into law in October 2004. More than half a year passed since. The bureaucrats at the State Department do not really care about these refugees. Not single refugees had come to the U.S. yet! They do not seem to be concerned about executing the law, or accepting the desperate refugees. All talk and speeches, but no action!
Nuclear is not the main issue! Human rights is! And the defectors are at the center of the NK human rights issue. If you read Hwang Jang-yop, there you can find the answers to the problem of Kim Jong-il and North Korea. We can get rid of him and his nuclear without a war. If you read “Aquariums of Pyongyang,” there you can experience the horrors and hellish nightmares of North Korea yourself. You don’t need any other books or testimonies. If you read “The Eyes of the Tailless Animals” by Soon Ok Lee, you cannot sit still doing nothing. If you read the cry from a 13-year old boy, who lost his parents and a sister at the concentration camp, and lost his best friend while crossing the river to China, you cannot help crying and shouting: “Why!”
Only July 19th, there will be an international conference on the NK human rights by Freedom House at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. According to Freedom House, Mr. Sharansky will be there. Mr. Kang Chol Hwan will be there. Many NK defectors will be there. The North Korea Genocide Exhibit will be there again also.
Come and see and hear yourself, people in the world! The horrors of the century! Hear them directly from the defectors who will testify with tears and blood! If South Koreans start to accept and welcome their own brothers and sisters from North Korea, we have a chance. Korea will rise again from these tragedies! Korea will be a great country again!
