Opinion] Very Simple Americans --- Geh-Seh-*ee

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before I start this letter, I would like to thank those Goh-Soo-Neem-Deul for translating my letters so much better than I can ever translate them into Korean.

Secondly, I think I have picked a wrong time to rejoin the siteYu Gee Jah Neem is away. It is not a good idea to start any discussions (or lack of) that may lead into heated arguments at this point. Nevertheless, it is truly sad to find that most young Koreans (including the Blue House staffs) do not understand how simple Americans are.

This letter is for them (the young) mostly. But if you are old enough to know what Boh-Lee-Goh-Geh is, then this letter may put some gentle smiles on your faces.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Geh-Seh-Ggee this was one of the first words I had to hear from him. I was a geh-seh-ggee in his book, and I knew just enough Korean language to understand what this word meant. In return, while I was still completely dumbfound, I responded by calling him Muhng-muhng-yee Gahck-Hah (how I came up with that expression at the time was-and still is- total mistery to meit was very shortly after having two or three extremely strong hard liquor on my empty stomach). That was how this geh-seh-ggee and Muhng-muhng-Yee Gahck-Hah started the conversation that night.

It took me awhile to realize that, in the Blue House at that time, GSG was not even a Yockif it was, it was a Yahng-Bahn-eh Sohck-Hah-Neun-Yock.

During that 1970s, his two main concerns were hunger and military defense of his beloved South Korea. You all know what kind of economical miracles he had orchestrated. So, I will focus on his military relationship with some American commanders.

His geh-seh-ggee dah-loo-neun-buhb ------

Many of you, most of you I hope, already know how rude and rough he was when it comes to talking to or dealing with Americans in Seoul then. No American politicians or any military commanders wanted to go to attend his late night dinner invitations. Most Americans, when they receive the invitations, usually started developing rather unusual stomach cramps almost instantly. Let me explain.

During these late night dinner gatherings, those Americans experience many things for the first time: such as
Ashtrays (jeh-tuhl-yee) flying up to the ceiling
Spoons, Juht-Gah-Lahck, bowls, etc being used for something other than eating food
Being called and named by every imaginable animal body parts
And we all developed new respect to the human (his) nature in inventing yock.

Extremely well organized top-rated bruit torture chamber in the most civilized form --- some retired USFK commander commented such after his own experience.

He did such things to many Americans back thenback then when Koreas military ability was almost none compare to that of the Northwhen he had to rely on the USFK for almost all military aids and moneywhen Hahn-Mee Youn-Hahb Sah-Ryoung-Gwahn was given a power of a small god, he treated the Sah-Ryoung-Gwahn like he would treat a house dog ( more realistically, worse than that of a house dog).

Even more mysterious to everyone was the fact that no American could hate himfor what he was trying to accomplishmake Koreans escape from hunger, at the same time, defend Koreans freedom and avoid a war. Everyone saw his tiredless/endless pursuit of his seemingly impossible goals.

And even more shocking to everyone (especially to the White House) was that those USFK commanders, when they came back to Washington and appeared in front of the Congress, they repeated such comments as if they were under the Blue House order, not under the White House control. So many promising US generals had to end their brilliant military careers during (or shortly after) their times in Korea.

Oddly enough, when he was assassinated, I do not know why those geh-seh-ggee-deul cried most. ^^
As a leader of a small third world country, he was definitely one of a kind.
Tuhl-uh-doh Myon-Jee-Ahn-nah-neun sah-lahm

Throughout the 20th Century, he was the only known foreign leader who could yell at mighty US generalsno known American Presidents could had done the same.

then, time flew

President Kim Dae Jung

Very friendly and well mannered to Americansmostly sad yes, yes to the US (as Sah-jah neem here put before)but he had a bank account in the US, his family had considerable estate interests in California. No wonder why he was very nice to the US.

To the Americans, he had never lost a smile and always very gentle and overly friendly. But, when there was no Americans around, he said something completely different about Americans.

then, there came President Noh.

We all know his deep seeded anti-America sentiment that proliferated throughout his political career. But, first he sends his famous anti-America movement followers to Washington to tell that they like America. And he himself says how much a strong relationship is needed between two nations, when he was in Washington. Then, he went back to Seoul, told Koreans something very different.

I have a question to the young members.

In Korea these days, in general, what do you call those people who say two different things with one mouth? Or what do you call a man whose action is 180 degrees opposite of what he says?

Now back to my letter again

Among all the leaders of Korean society, especially among the Korean military society, one general was making a small difference.

When he was a RoKAF Jahck-Juhn-Sah-Ryoung-Gwahn, he had many occasions where he had to go to the USAF bases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before I say this, please let me give you some background information first.
Throughout the world, even in the NATO, it is not always that foreign military personnel salute to some other foreign military generals. Even in the US, not always though, say a Marine guard salutes to a passing by Air Force General in a car doing 50km.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One day when he was driving inside an USFK base, an US guard forgot to salute him (his car). His car stopped. Someone came out of the carhad a very friendly conversationthis young US guard and his friends saluted (sweating and trembling)and the car drove away.

Some days later, his car appeared againUS guards ran from over 100 meters awaysaluted his car (he was not even in the car).

Such (famous) stories in the Pentagon were possible only because
(1) he was an exceptional military man
(2) he had that USAF captain

This is one of small episodes that I can share with you in the open.

From this letter, I hope you can read what makes Americans respect you. I do believe that the same idea works throughout any culture.
Thank you for reading long and boring letter.

Sincerely,
Hwa Lahng

P.S. I will stop writing for now. Maybe, just maybe, when Yu Gee Jah Neem comes back, we can start our discussion on the KF-2015 project. Those handful of expository committee members can surely use your help.
