Dazu wird er die
Obelisken von Beth-Schemesch, die im Land Ägypten sind, zerbrechen
und die Tempel der Götter Ägyptens mit Feuer verbrennen.
But you shall tear down and destroy their [pagan] altars, smash in pieces their [sacred] pillars (obelisks, images)
and cut down their Asherim
[ Blessings of Obedience ] ‘You shall not make idols for yourselves, nor shall you erect an image, a sacred pillar or an obelisk,
nor shall you place any figured stone in your land so that you may bow down to it; for I am the Lord your God.
They brought out the sacred pillars (
obelisks) of the house of Baal and burned them.
He removed the foreign altars and high places and tore down the [pagan] pillars (obelisks, memorial stones),
and cut to pieces the Asherim [the symbols of the goddess Asherah].
